Sammendrag

The Lutheran funeral sermon, which became an important literary genre from the second half of the 16th century, shows a changed role for the religious examples. From being restricted to a hierarchically controlled canon of saints, the religious examples came to include an infinite multitude of believers pronounced freely by the local minister. The changes the religious examples underwent during this period, resembles the changes in the use of literary examples in the Renaissance as described by literary theorists.
