Sammendrag
Since 1989, Norway has had a name-day calendar, owned and published by Almanakkforlaget. Although not rooted in Norwegian tradition, the calendar was developed based on the pan-European Catholic almanac. It primarily features traditional Norwegian names in common use while also seeking to reflect contemporary naming trends. The overarching goal of the revisions is to ensure that as many children and young people in Norway as possible can celebrate a name-day. This article examines the considerations that have guided the development of the name-day list since 2009. It also offers some comparative insight into the revision processes undertaken in neighbouring countries—Sweden and Finland—highlighting practices that may inform the future updating and promotion of the Norwegian name day calendar.
