The anthroponym Sjøfar ‒ onomastics and genealogy
The Scandinavian peoples were seafarers long before historical times. Therefore, it is not surprisingly that Norwegian historical sources mention a male personal name Sjøfar. The name was confined to a family belonging to the nobility and later to their descendants and geographi-cally limited to the region then called Borgarsyssel (now the county of Østfold), and a few parishes adjoining this region.
