Abstract
This article explores the documentation of Norwegian traditional music, to be found in the Norwegian folklorist Richard Berge's (1881 -1969) phonograph and photography archives. The article discusses how Berge proceeded with his documentation, using these techniques, when exploring and comparing the two archive fragments. In order to provide a better understanding of the relation between these two archive fragments, the article discusses what may have been his strategy for documenting, or if he collected more by random from time to time. Based on the time frame the folklorist worked with his collections, the article briefly addresses what personal factors may have been significant and potentially had an impact on his historical legacy.Â
