Sammendrag

En kollega ga for få år siden ut boka La plus importante bagatelle du monde. Den handler ikke om norske forhold, men kanskje tittelen passer på den store hundreårsmarkeringen likevel. Trolig passer den også på de hendelser markeringen skal feire, unionsoppløsningen i 1905. Det var iallefall en vanlig mening blant norske historikere på 1970-tallet. Da de døde ut, de heroiserende forskergenerasjonene som selv tok del eller direkte traderte fortellin-­gen om unionsoppløsningen, ble tonen en annen blant yngre etterfølgere: 'Det var jo bare en personalunion, og det gikk jo fredelig for seg'.1 En bagatell eller nesten det i retrospekt.
