Det er viktig at sosiologer nå kommer på banen med analyser av sosiale mediers betydning for samfunnsutviklingen. - En gruppe forskere fra Institutt for samfunnsforskning, Bernard Enjolras, Rune Karlsen, Kari Steen-Johnsen og Dag Wollebæk, baserer sin bok "Liker, liker ikke. Sosiale medier, samfunnsengasjement og offentlighet" på et kvantitativt tidsseriemateriale (to tidspunkt i 2011 og et tidspunkt i 2012). Befolkningens bruk av sosiale medier drøftes i lys av teori om demokrati, offentlighet og ulikhet. Jan Frode Haugseth fra NTNU har skrevet en annen type bok, titulert "Sosiale medier i samfunnet". Her er kun ett kapittel viet til diskusjoner av sosiale mediers betydning for offentlighet og demokrati. Boken hans har som ambisjon å bringe sosiale medier "tilbake" til samfunnet og til sosiologien. Mens den første boken er basert på en avgrenset empirisk studie, er den andre en mer generell innføringsbok om sosiale mediers betydning for en rekke samfunnstrekk.Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
