Sammendrag

Zygmunt Bauman publiserte i årene 1987-1991 tre sentrale bøker som i etterkant er blitt oppfattet som en trilogi over moderniteten: Legislators and Interpreters (1987), Modernity and the Holocaust (1989) og Modernity and Ambivalence (1991). Disse bøkene handler på mange måter om det samme; om det dobbelte, selvmotsigende og paradoksale ved moderniteten. Selv om bøkene er mer enn tyve år gamle, virker Baumans grunnleggende ideer fremdeles like relevante. Den uomgjengelige ambivalensen som fremdeles preger vår moderne tilstand, gjør at Baumans verker ikke er blitt mindre aktuelle.
