Sammendrag
The article outlines the development of historical saga criticism from about 1800 to the early twentieth century, and proceeds to discuss where it stands and ought to stand today. This is done in the light of a selection of studies from the last four to five decades, written partly by literary saga scholars and partly by historians and others who have been prominent in the so-called anthropological approach to the sagas.
