Sammendrag

The Unadjusted Girl fra 1923 er en av de bøkene som er blitt gjenutgitt flere ganger fra Chicagoskolens gullalder, ikke minst de senere år. Men det er likevel en bok som ikke har fått den anerkjennelsens den fortjener. Sosiologihistorien har redusert arbeidene fra Chicago på begynnelsen av forrige århundre til metodisk pionerarbeid med historisk interesse. Men The Unadjusted Girl har likheter med Selvmordet til Durkheim, og kunne, om historiske tilfeldigheter hadde utspilt seg annerledes, spilt en tilsvarende rolle.
